Love Me Do by Lindsey Kelk

5.0

I fell in love with Lindsey Kelk’s books from the first time I picked up I Heart New York. There is something unique about her ability to write loveable characters overcoming difficult circumstances and her blend of emotion and witty banter. Love Me Do is one of her best.

Phoebe Chapman is a British woman who has just come out of a toxic relationship. Needing to get away she travels to Hollywood Hills California to stay with her sister on a two-week holiday. Upon her arrival, her sister notes that she needs to go away on a business trip for a few days. But her home is a vacationers paradise complete with a fully stocked fridge and a large swimming pool.

She meets the attractive neighbour next door named Ren her first evening in town and the following morning her sister’s personal trainer Bel. We learn that Bel has had a crush on Ren for quite some time but she can’t even speak properly when she’s around him. Phoebe suggests writing a letter to articulate her feelings to Ren but Bel convinces Phoebe to write the letter for her. Ren is smitten by the letter and he and Bel begin to date. By this time, Phoebe also realizes she has feelings for Ren as well.

We also meet a elderly reclusive Hollywood star living in the neighbourhood and the two begin a friendship. This gives the story just a bit of Hollywood glam and charm. Without giving anything away, this woman gives Phoebe the insight into creating for herself a happy future.

I highly recommend this book to those readers who enjoy humour and interesting characters in their romance stories.
