Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

I went into this one slightly biased. I saw it all over every kind of social media and it feels as though I'm one of the last people to read this although I know I am not. The synopsis of the book reminded me so much of how my grandmother used to talk to my siblings and I about the blessing of the earth that I knew I would love it. I was astounded by how much I learned and how deeply I now feel to the world. I've always had a strong affiliation and connection with the outdoors; and it's where I truly feel the most like myself. This ignited, or possibly rekindled, something deep within me. We are a part of this world, not just gaining from it but also helping it in our own ways. We have strayed so far from this notion that it's hard to pull that feeling from within, but it's certainly there no matter how deeply it is buried. I believe this should be required reading, absolutely phenomenal. I will be reading more nature-based and Indigenous readings because of this one.
