Bruce's Big Move (a Mother Bruce Book) by Ryan T. Higgins
4.0
Maybe more 4.5 because the first one still is my favorite. I just love the Grumpy-faced Bruce bear and how he really is a big softy on the inside. Such great ideas on the illustrations, like the turtles building the house "We're a little behind schedule...." Bruce keeps trying to get rid of the 3 mice but just can't seem to do it. I think Bruce's feelings in the book are relatable to pretty much any parent on the planet sometimes. "Bruce's house was once again crowded, chaotic, and loud. And Bruce didn't like it one bit. But it felt like home." Amen, Bruce. After 60 days cooped up with my 1st and 3rd grader I agree the mess and noise can be miserable but it is also home. The mice, geese and other animals are non-plussed by his crabby comments and instead respond with "We love you, too." Exactly right =) When parents who deeply love their kids grumble and mumble about the messes, kids still know they are loved and cared for. The whole Bruce series makes me smile. Now true... he did leave the mice behind when taking his four kid geese to search for a new home but that "negative" message doesn't stick because the drawings and characters are so fun.
