hibiscus 's review for:
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
by Arthur Conan Doyle
Sherlock and Watson are very sympathetic characters, one instantly gets involved with them.
Yet the plots are quite naive and deductive chains so dubious and arbitrary, though internally claimed to be rigorous and logical. But the worst thing about detectives generally, is that it's interesting only while you're reading it, but loses all attraction once finished. No afterthought usually remains. Which makes detectives pulp fiction to me. The quality of writing and its classical status still make the book appealing.
Watson was a retired military doctor, had served in Afghanistan, still relevant in 2021 :/
The Moriarti episode and the marvelous comeback of Sherlock gave me that endless sequels feeling.
