Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir by Jeremy Barlow

4.0

As big fan of SW: THE CLONE WARS, as well as SW: REBELS, I had high expectations for this mini-series which focused on Maul (not Darth Maul any longer, since being abandoned by the Sith, and Palpatine, at the end of SW: THE PHANTOM MENACE). Those high expectations were fulfilled and then some!

Jeremy Barlow did a bang-up job with Maul's dialogue. Everyone else was pretty good as well, but definitely super-awesome scripting for Maul! I had no trouble hear Sam Wittwer's voice (the voice of Maul on SW:TCW and SW:R) saying every word bubble of his!

And let's not forget the art! I quite liked art as much as the script. From Juan Frigeri's pencils to Mauro Vargas' inking, and bringing it all home, the coloring of Wes Dzioba! Some reviews elsewhere had said the art didn't really do mcuh for the story; clearly, they must have been reading a *different* Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir! I tip my hat to the finished art for the whole mini! Thank you, all!

And, lastly, the story is adapted from unproduced scripts from Season 6 of SW:TCW. It was to have been the final story for Maul, giving him closure, but instead, it adds to the overall story, bringing more backstory to Maul's already dark, and kinda sad (emotionally). That might leave y'all out if you have never watched TCW or REBELS, but if you did, you will be rewarded much at the mini's conclusion!

Peace, and may the Force be wit'cha!
