Mom Coms by Swati M.H., Brittanée Nicole, Jenni Bara, Daphne Elliot

3.0

This is a prequel to a series of 4 (novels? novellas? I'm not totally sure, because they're not on Goodreads yet and their Amazon listings don't have a page count) books, written by 4 different authors and featuring 4 BFFs and their (eventual) HEAs. As its own story it's a bit disjointed--we do get introduced to each of the women in their respective chapters, but for BFFs who are on a long-awaited girls' trip together, we only see all 4 of them on the page together in the final chapter, the last 19% or so of the book, which feels...strange, since we are already 2+ days into their vacay. The absolute last page finally gives us the premise for the series
Spoiler--the idea that they will start a "mom com" AKA a "mom community" to "fix" the disasters their lives have become--but it's not like it's even a well-thought-out plan at that point. She literally just came up with it after setting her shirt on fire and dancing to a little TS. The woman who suggests it isn't even the person who owns the building she says they should all live in, and 2 of them don't even live in the area yet and *might* need to be convinced to move. So...yeah. Not yet convinced this is a done deal for 4 women who have kids and lives elsewhere at this point...

So...it's a decent intro to each woman and her individual situation, but the group dynamic and the background for their new "mom com" way of life aren't really fully developed. Still, it's a free read, and can give you an idea of each author's writing style.

(Also--I get why the series is called Mom Coms, but why is that the name of this book? They're only making one "mom community...")
