Itยดs my second time reading Guardian by Priest. The first time was online. before it got an official release. I have to say the translations were ass (still thankful they existed) and a bit all over the place, so I did struggled to understand it.
I thought "this time it will probably be a bit better, but still an averagely ranked Danmei" but man was i wrong.
It was so much better than i remembered. 

I am a sucker for reincarnation stories, about second, third, fourth chances to be with u fated one!
Danmei does that so fking good. Even if they aren't technically soulmates in the explicit sense, it just convinces u without a doubt -> those 2 are meant to be! (RanWan, WeiLan, WangXian...).
WeiLans devotion to each other, right away, was lovely too! It never felt like one was more dedicated to this relationship than the other. Despite the premise kinda giving u the feeling one would be.

Simps unite!

The lore in this one is DEEP. I can't for sure say i understood every aspect of it (littered with lies, and mirages, and deception), but it gave the story so much...โœจ๏ธmoreโœจ๏ธ u know? U felt like u experienced multiple lifetimes and stories, in one go.

I never really read extras (when i was exclusively on my online Danmei phase), and i even deliberatly stayed away from the sad ones (the Shen Jiu one in SVSSS comes to mind, i just couldn't) but look at me now. The Shen San one was by far my most favorite.
GOD THEY DESERVE THE BEST :( Xiao-Wei Baby, i am so sorry. NO WONDER u suffered the tragedy of only watching u beloved from afar. The bittersweetness of it just ARGH. It hit me in my weak weak heart


It made the ending of the main story so much more meaningful.
