The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

5.0

Oh Werther!
You could never annoy me!

Maybe it is because I love Goethe so much or maybe I have a high tolerance for whining young men; but as soon as I started reading this novel I knew that it would be one of my favorites.

If you've read 'Catcher in the Rye' and thought that protagonist was annoying - don't read this.
It is not really a love story in my book but a study in 'weltschmerz' and depression.

It is of the most bitter-sweet beauty to me.
