The Saga of the Volsungs by Jesse L. Byock
4.0
This is a tough one to rate within the context of all the contemporary fiction/fantasy that I typically read. It's a fantastic (if brief) story. It's influence on many books that I'd consider favorites is obvious.
There are heroes and dragon slaying, betrayals and revenge, incest and murder. But it also feels so thin. I get that these were passed down through oral tradition, but our 4th- and 5th-century storytellers could have elaborated a bit.
