The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

4.0

Let's be honest.

I got this to fact check Disney movies.

And it was hilarious!

Disney basically made fanfilms of this GLORIOUS and deep stuff!

This is a collection of German fairy tales in near original wording. So that means it's dark and adventurous. But it inspired insta-love ideals and other messed up ideals because of so many of the ideas found within.

I found each story fun in its own way. It was logical, interesting in many cases, compelling but so short! They were full of old ideas about many things, so take it with a grain of salt.

The characters found within these stories were fairly varied to a point. Many were Europeans and many were copied, but some of the characters were original to the story.

One constant theme I found within the characters was the men were often bossy and overbearing and the women were pretty much the stereotypical Disney princesses. The princess were fairly bossy and typically spoiled while the princes were all manly and powerful.

This is good starting point for research of what people thought and believed when the Grimm brothers wrote this.

There are a few stories in this that I really wish were adapted into a full length novel. With adjustments, of course. (Examples being 'King Thrushbeard,' 'Rose-Red and Snow-White,' and 'Twelve Brothers')
