Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
3.0

After Emilia’s twin sister is murdered, she teams up with Wrath, a Prince of Hell, in order to get revenge on the killer and stop them from harming more witches.

While the concept was really cool, I felt like that plot was a bit weak. A lot of plot lines were repetitive or predictable, and I felt like there were no real consequences to Emilia’s actions.

I think a big reason for me not rating this book higher, is that I didn’t relate to or like any of the characters. Aside from that, none of the relationships between them seemed realistic.

The writing was good, and very digestible, especially for a fantasy. I personally would have preferred an extra element to the story-telling, such as Wrath’s point of view, or flashbacks, to give the story more depth.

The concept was really cool, and I am fascinated by the Princes and the witches’ magic. I hoped we’d see more of that, but maybe in the next book. It’s also a very atmospheric book. I loved the fact that food was such a prominent element, as it really brings you into the book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. I was expecting to like it a lot more than I did, but I’m not really disappointed in it. It sets the story up nicely for future books. Would highly recommend for fans of Holly Black’s The Folk of the Air trilogy.
