Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

4.0

When I was a kid, I got a book from the Weekly Reader book order thingy at school that was about a kid who fought polluters—“Alvin Fernald, Superweasel.” Weird coincidence—the author turned out to be one of my in-laws’ best friends and he then autographed that book club edition of that book, lol. Anyway, Hoot is that book again. And I love Carl Hiaasen and his rage at what has happened to Florida’s natural world so I gave this improbable story of a boy who joins some Florida characters to save some burrowing owls four stars.
