The Copenhagen Trilogy: Childhood; Youth; Dependency by Tove Ditlevsen

reflective tense slow-paced

5.0

I thought the would be a fun on the nose read for my trip to Copenhagen and boy was I wrong. Bracing, Annie Ernaux meets Elena Ferrante. First part is slice of life about working class Copenhagen in the early to mid 1900s. The writing is nuanced, dry, and snarky. All the complexity falls away to the gut wrenching devastating last section. At first I didn’t think it was anything special but I couldn’t put this one down.
