I first read this book in seventh grade and didn't really understand it. After reading it again, I understand it a lot more. I think after receiving memories from the Giver, Jonas wanted more out of life and something different from the safety, comfort and sameness that he was used too. I also feel that in a way by going elsewhere, Jonas was saving himself from a life of lies that he had been fed from his family and community.
