Paradise Valley by Robyn Carr

4.0

I’d give this like, a 3.8
This review discusses things you would already would know from the back of the book, no spoilers outside of that

This one didn’t go down as easy as some of the other books. It was a tiny bit clunkier as far as the fact we had 4 different couples to follow simultaneously.

Walt and Muriel didn’t feel super necessary but I get why some readers would enjoy an older couple to follow. I personally didn’t want it. But I think that’s because they’re the same age as my in-laws who are in a newish relationship. I didn’t want the mental picture of what their bedroom affairs have looked like

Abby and Cameron were the hardest to deal with

Dan and Cheryl are well-matched, and I’d honestly would enjoy more from them. I do hope we get to see more in the next book

Ricky and Liz. Oh my heart.

If anyone says that Carr’s storylines end up too saccharin sweet, they can’t say that after theirs. But what happened between them is one of the most realistic plot lines of the entire series; what soldiers who experience combat injuries and their families have to endure.
And it absolutely broke my heart. Many times I cried over not just Ricky but for our soldiers in real life. And for boys who become men who weren’t raised with the tools to handle emotions better—who believe they shouldn’t even have them.

I couldn’t even be frustrated with Ricky’s behavior, because it is so real that it becomes heartbreaking.

This wasn’t my favorite of her books but it was still real good. As always, I forget I’m reading about fictional people sometimes.
