The Andromeda Evolution
by Michael Crichton, Daniel H. Wilson
I wish this rating system was from 1 to 10, not just for this book but every book.
The Andromeda Strain was one of the first books I ever read and it is my favorite Michael Crichton novel. My feelings on the book were a rollercoaster. The first portion of the book I was thrilled because it felt like I was reading Crichton! Then, sometime during the book the story took the mythos of both books into a completely different direction. At first I was upset at this, but I began to think "Ok, there are some really cool ideas in here... but I wish it wasn't Andromeda.... but it did fit perfectly... the ending felt far less Crichton but... it felt like a touching tribute to Crichton... how could I be upset at that?
If you are someone who hates novels expanding on a beloved mythos, such as the Star Wars novels or the Dune novels written by Frank Herbert's son, you probably wouldn't like this... I love those type of books and can separate them and enjoy them on their own merit! So I really enjoyed this.
