Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 1 by Kanehito Yamada, Tsukasa Abe

WOW did I love this!
This series is about an elf girl who, many years after they defeat the demon king, realizes how little she knew of her friends as they pass away. She of course is near immortal and has not thought about how fleeting life is for humans.
This leads to her to change and wishing to understand those around her. This is a contemplative and introspective series that shines with the quiet strength of its subject and emotions. Lots of things here are deep and full of meaning. Moments feel like a beautiful sadness put to the page and that is something truly difficult to pull off. I’m only 1 volume in and this is a triumph of Manga already. It helps also that the art is as good as it is. Fantastic!!
