Solid beach read of a book; the plain air-popped popcorn of snacks. Maybe even one of the more compelling Hallmark movies, i.e. you don’t set out to watch it, but having landed on it while you’re flipping channels, you see it through because why not. Nothing to write home about, but accomplishes what it sets out to do and tells a small town murder mystery story. I found the characters’ treatment of addiction to be uncomfortable; perhaps realistic to who they are as people. The romance between our sister and the dead girl’s brother felt a little shoehorned in? But also! Completely in line with the Hallmark movie of it all. Did not predict the ending! (Although the acting choices one audiobook narrator made retroactively made much more sense.) I was far more invested in the plot than the rotating cast of characters, which is unusual for me! A little pumpkin of ‘meh’ enrichment for my enclosure.
