Jane Eyre was the very first book that my friend and I did a buddy read for in 2016, so when we saw the announcement for John Eyre, we knew we had to read it together.
John Eyre is a wonderfully written reimagining. Mimi Matthews has taken a great classic and somehow made it darker and more beautiful. Seeing the similarities in the storyline to Jane Eyre was a joy, but the differences took it to a new level. This sparked the most discussion we've ever had during a buddy read.
Overall, John Eyre is a beautiful, dark, engrossing read, and I look forward to reading more by Mimi Matthews. I recommend John Eyre to fans of Jane Eyre and historical fiction.
