The only thing stopping me scoring this a four was the inclusion of Fatphobic comments from characters through out. Considering "size 12 is not fat" is both title and mantra of this story, it felt incongruous and added to create conflict where there didn't need to be any.
The main character is conflicted about her own size, talking about the food she enjoys eating in the same breathe as putting herself down for not being fitter or thinner (which is a fair depiction- I do these things) but the idea that others comment so frequently on her size comes across a bit bizarre and detracts from the story - which is a murder mystery she is perfectly placed to solve.
The romance elements and the mystery itself was perfect for me. Really enjoyed it. But just couldn't get past my thoughts on the above.
