I was blown away by how deftly this author was able to tackle some extremely heavy subjects. It is set in India present day. It deals with domestic violence, rape, the caste system, misogyny, the rights of women married and unmarried to name a few but it approaches them from the frame work of how woman can and need to empower themselves. It also celebrates the power of friendship. It does all of this through a lens of humor, definitely darker humor but not cruel humor. For me it made these subjects accessible without trivializing them. For those concerned about triggers most of the violence is talked about having already happened, there are no violent scenes, nothing is graphic, but there is talk of suicide, rape, and domestic violence.
While there are no graphic depictions the story does talk about rape, suicide and domestic violence.
