I have a kink in my neck and tear tracks on my face from binge reading this book. The drama. The politics. The action. This book has it all and I freaking love it.
The Fixer is about Tess Kendrick who is pulled from her life in Montana to live with her sister in Washington DC where she works as a fixer for people who need their problems fixed. She joins an elite high school that the children of the important attend. Tess finds herself with the same knack for fixing things as her sister and finds herself tangled in a political web that involves the White House.
If you've ever watched Scandal, you know what you're in for. The Fixer is like the YA version of Scandal without all the emotional drama between Olivia Pope and the President. This book is exactly what I hoped for. There's a lot of mystery that we get to unravel with Tess as she tries to find out exactly what is going on and to help her friend.
I love Tess. She's strong and stubborn with a great sense for connecting the dots. She's cunning as well in that she knows how to find the things to get other people to do what she wants. In that sense she's similar to her sister as they're both good at fixing problems.
There's no romance in this novel and I'm totally fine with that. I was totally enthralled with the mystery and conspiracy that Tess was trying to unravel and I think that putting romance in it would have probably made it too much. Also Tess would probably have no time for romance considering her predicament. She does make some good friends though, like Asher and Vivvie.
Asher is great. He's half of a set of twins and he's the reckless one while his sister Emilia is trying to become valedictorian. Asher is laid back and funny and he'd do quite a lot for his friends. Vivvie is Tess' first friend at school and she's sweet and cheerful.
Overall, I really love this book. It's filled to the brim with drama, political intrigue, action and conspiracy. The Fixer is one of my favourite books of this year.
