Long Way Home by Melissa Grace
4.0

“Love will always lead you home.”

Jo Kingsley is having it rough: fired, has no boyfriend (anymore), has no home (anymore), and struggles with a father who doesn’t exactly “see” her. So off she goes to her comfort zone: Nashville. While escaping to her bestie’s home for some time of reflection, Jo also gets more familiar with said bestie’s circle of friends.

Namely Derek Knights, the bass player from the band “Midnight in Dallas”. He hasn’t had it easy himself either. As the author warns in the beginning of the book, Derek had a troubling childhood, and while he still struggles from the painful memories, he’s also dragging his feet with his career with a dream to do something else.

Jo and Derek’s love story can be summed up in Melissa’s snow globe analogy: “The world inside a snow globe is perfect. It captures all the magic of a single moment. But to truly see the beauty of it, you have to shake it up first.” Jo and Derek’s world is indeed shaken up. I enjoyed every second of their road to their HEA as I watched them in their own romantic swoon-worthy snow globe. My heart skipped several beats coz they’re just that damn cute.

“Long Way Home” is a standalone BUT if you want to get a sense of the gang, I highly suggest reading book 1. These friends are friends you have for life. They all have had challenging lives, but it is the thread of unconditional love that helps them get through life. “Our friends are the family we get to choose….All we need to have a family is love.”
