Zombie Makeout Club Vol. 1: Deathwish
by Peter Richardson
The positive aspect of this book is the artwork is beautiful to look at especially if you're a horror and anime fan. I also own shirts from Zombie Makeout Club due to enjoying the designs. But as a fan and someone who occasionally enjoys style over substance works, I'm disappointed with this story.
The story is nonexistent. The only part where the plot is mentioned is in the blurb. The lack of story combined with the fast pacing made it hard to follow what was going on the pages. The action scenes are the worse offender because the scenes get too busy and I get confused about what is occurring. It doesn't help that the characters' personalities are equally bland, that I have a hard time knowing their motivations and other stuff. Summer Death, the last story in the book, is the only story where I can sort of understand what is happening. But it still has the problem of abruptly ending out of nowhere.
Unfortunately, this book is now part of my worst reads of 2023 list. While the art is stunning, it is not enough to save the entire book.
