Dead in the Water by Hailey Edwards

So far, so good.

I really liked this book. I’m not quite as much of a fan of this series as I am of this author’s Grier Woolworth series yet, but I think I’ll get there.

So, one of the things this author excels at is story pacing. Most of the time. There are times when she asks readers to take things on faith or fill in the blanks themselves. Usually it’s with the characters’ relationships. It’s a little frustrating to read characters being introduced to each other, then boom! Close bond for no apparent reason.

That said, it’s a minor annoyance, and I’m happy to ignore it since she keeps the plot moving. The character development follows the same line. You’re told “this is who this character is” rather than shown through the character’s actions, but it’s not egregious, and so far, the characters’ actions line up with what were told to expect.

Overall, if you like paranormal/mythical creature fiction, this is a lovely, quick read.
