Sanctuary by Rebekah Weatherspoon

2.0

It starts with a bang, immediately making you root for our leading lady, but for me, it stalls out once we get to Silas.

I like him very much, his completely rational and emotionless approach to the world made a lot of sense. We didn't really get a glimpse into how his brain works. (And don't get me wrong, he does not owe us an explanation) We do, however, read half the book from his point of view and I imagine his internal monologue would include his personal feelings.

The sexual relationship is very explicit and I love that. (I like my steam hella steamy). However, here I also have some stumbling blocks. Some of the acts needed greater consent for me to really get hot and bothered the way the characters did and all of the BDSM play lacked clear rules. I may be an interloper in terms of my understanding of the community, but one thing I know is that the rules matter, and communicating them clearly is paramount.

I picked this book up because I met these characters in Xeni, but I'm not sure I'm interested enough to read the other two in this series.
I do plan to keep reading Rebekah Weatherspoon, just maybe not this trilogy.
