This was a very interesting read — something that honestly overwhelmed me, but in a good way, I think. Not only is the historical point of view incredibly important for understanding the immense strife and suffering of African Americans amid such a despicable time, but it also shines a light on such deep emotions that seemed to have me unsettled yet empathetic in so many aspects. It’s a messy and complicated story, but so very good — especially the pushing, pulling relationship of Sethe, Denver, and Beloved. It makes me think a lot about grief and loneliness — how holding onto these things gone by can do just as much harm as it can good.
