Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan

5.0

Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

This was my first book from this author. I had heard of Sophie Jordan's previous books, yet I didn't dare read them, mostly her "Uninvited" series. But after reading "Reign of Shadows" I will make sure to find more of her books!

"Reign of Shadows" could be easily a meeting between "Tangled" and the "Pure" series by Julianna Baggott. Luna lives in a hidden tower and Fowler is a ruthless hunter who tries to survive. When the circumstances force them to travel together, Luna will travel into a world full of darkness, monsters and secrets.

Now you'd think that this wold-building would be easy? No! Think again. Or maybe IMAGINE a world after an eclipse where there are few hours of daylight, then darkness comes and evil creatures, a mix between roaches and zombies (to my opinion) roam the grounds at night.

On the other hand, with no sun, there is no food, vegetation and the animals are forced to evolve into the new enviroment.

But it wasn't the world building that surprised me. It was Luna. Her condition (no spoiler from me), her abilities and her faith in goodness even in this bleak world was a rare ray of sunshine. Fowler really was grumpy and cynic and many times he wondered about Luna but everything between them was slow burning and very original. The double POV proves it.

The ending? The worst cliffhanger of all. This was the second time I finished a book which left me turning the pages back and forth making sure that there were others too! I will defenitely expect the next book praying for Luna and Fowler to survive.
