Let me start by saying this is more than just an expose on Scientology. This is really more of a memoir from Leah Remini. She talks about her childhood and when she first become a part of the church as a young girl after her mom joined. She talks about when she was in LA (after her family got being kicked out of Clearwater’s Scientology organization for Leah misbehaving) and aspiring to be an actress while also working an office job to try to help her family get by.

Yes, the majority of the book IS about Scientology but it is still tied into what is going on at that point in her life. I listened to the audiobook and having Leah tell me her story (in her wonderful Brooklyn accent) made it that much more enjoyable. Leah came off as real and genuine and you could almost feel her emotions coming through when she was talking about when she stared to doubts Scientology and her own beliefs.

I would highly recommend this to anyone curious about behind the scenes of Scientology (and yes...it does discuss a certain couch-jumping actor and his crazy romance (?) with a certain Dawson’s Creek actress) or if they want a good memoir to read.
