In the Miso Soup by Ryū Murakami
4.0
A violent novel that succeeds in being a horror-thriller-crime story without pretention and a symbolic tale about Japanese identity, its view of foreigners and its conflicted adoration of american culture. Frank is not only american: he is America, but this fact is well crafted and doesn't feel like a moral of some sort.
