Doyle is a hard narrator for me to dig into. She feels far too peppy for me and it made it hard for me to take her “you can do anything if you let go of societal expectations” talk seriously at the beginning of the book. It felt very White woman toxic positivity cult. But as the book went on, I grew to appreciate Doyle’s ability to admit her own faults and her willingness to pull other White women into the work of anti-racism and inclusion. Doyle isn’t my personal feminist savior, but I can see how she holds an important role in welcoming a population of women who are hesitant into the work.
