Weapon by Lynette Noni
5.0
“Weapon” is the sequel to Lynette Noni’s “Whisper”, her only other book to lie outside of her Medoran Chronicles. Unlike said series, which is set in a fantasy world, “Whisper” and “Weapon” are set in modern day Sydney, yet still manages to create another fantasy plot line hidden directly under well known monuments such as Centrepoint Tower.
I admit, I had my doubts for a while. When I was about 50 pages from the end, I was sure that Lynette Noni would have to write a third book in the instalment, there was just so much more to fit in such a small amount of pages. However, Noni was adamant to finish it all in two books, so the ending was a little rushed to fit everything in, yet somehow it didn’t take away my interest or lose me in any way, in fact I think it actually worked to further them. Let’s be real, life has a habit sometimes of dumping things on you all at once, expecting you to struggle through it, and that’s exactly what happened here: Alyssa, the main character, found all of the answers she was looking for, realising just how interwoven all of their problems were, and managed to save the day at the last moment. It was thrilling, exciting, it had my heart pounding in anticipation, and I loved it!
To be fair, some points were rather predictable, the betrayal of a certain character, the endgame ship, but that just meant I was all the more shocked at the twists I couldn’t predict. You think you have it all figured out, then BOOM, everything changes. The book works hard to keep you on your toes, and oh boy, it does.
