Dracula is one of those classics that's actually a good read. Plus, vampire tropes have drifted far enough from their original roots that the plot remains exciting and surprising.

Written as a series of letters and journal entries, Dracula begins by following Jonathon Harker, an English estate lawyer who has been solicited by a foreign client living in Transylvania (Count Dracula). Staying at his client's castle as a guest, he gradually realizes the terrifying truth that he is no more than a prisoner, and is being used to enable Dracula's smooth entry into England.

After that the viewpoint flicks between multiple protagonists for a while, and the pace drags a little while important groundwork is laid down. Once Professor Van Helsing steps on the scene, however, the plot picks up with a bang and sprints all the way to the end.

The ending is also satisfying, with
the heroes triumphing over the evil vampire
. This book has a solid recommendation from me.
