Rubicon by J.S. Dewes
3.0

I wanted to like this book. The first half of the book was intriguing. And then it started bogging down in the second half. But then a twist or two later and I was re engaged.

However…

One of my pet peeves about thriller type novels is when the protagonist and the villain are face to face. The villain then delivers a soliloquy about the nefarious plot and how it’s the right thing, can’t be stopped, etc etc. I view it as a nonsensical way for the author to give plot explanations.

And this book does it several times. Painful.

Overall this has some innovative sci fi ideas. But it’s hamstrung by not-so-innovative storytelling in the last quarter.
