Notes from Underground and the Double
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
emotional
funny
mysterious
reflective
fast-paced
A pair of powerful tales exploring existential dread, Russian pessimism, and the search for self-identity in an uncaring world.
I enjoyed the latter work more, likely due to it's similarity to Gogol. Lots of humourous moments to be found in Golyadkin's despair at being outwitted by a better version of himself.
