Old fashioned, simple fun. An entertaining love story, with comical tortoise language that made my class really giggle! I would read this aloud again, especially knowing how much the children enjoyed the humour. The characters are likeable, too. Mr Hoppy goes to such great lengths to win the affections of Mrs Silver; this is amusing, if somewhat dubious. At least there is a happy, feel-good ending for both of them and for Alfie the tortoise, too. Although there are some questionable decisions around animal welfare. But we took this with a pinch of salt; it is fictional, after all. Thank you to Roald Dahl for the laughs and the light-hearted tale of romance.
