I arrived at this book out of duty to humanity but I have to say, it surprised me by being a really great book.
The journalistic scoop, the boldness of his methods, the editing for narrative arc, the understatement of the pathos all are really, really well done. I was scared sh*tless for the author as he want back and back again to the country which hasn't changed much since Joseph Conrad wrote Heart of Darkness.
Cobalt Red is a quickish read at 249 pages.
I hope this gets several remixes and comes out as a comic book, as ice bucket TikTok challenge, as a Joe Rogan episode, as a Taylor Swift video, as a Kanye West sneaker - - whatever it takes so that his hard work and bold journalism pay off. Because until we fix this problem it will be kind of akin to all of us buying soap made from human fat. This cobalt problem is that bad.
