Tartuffe by Molière
5.0

I was assigned to read Tartuffe for my Western Tradition class to write a paper on, and I surprisingly enjoyed it. I knew ahead of time that it was a comedy, but most old comedies are not necessarily funny to the modern era. However, Tartuffe remains itself funny even today. It definitely has a lot of historical context, displaying absolutism under King Louis XIV of France. The end of the play blatantly shows examples of it, seeing as the king had to grant permission for Moliere to publish Tartuffe and it was rejected multiple times before. Overall, the play was short yet heavy with plot, humorous, and enjoyable.
