Let Us Descend by Jesmyn Ward

There was some beautiful writing, but it felt a bit disjointed and more like a poem than a book to me. It probably didn’t help that it was a very painful book. She did a good job conveying the pain and suffering, because you could feel that through out.

My favorite element of the book was her references to foraging. It’s an important piece of history that many of the novels I’ve read around the topic of slavery leave unmentioned .
