Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
5.0
challenging hopeful mysterious reflective slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated

Jane Eyre has a little bit of everything: a love story, a bildungsroman, a nanny falling for her brooding older employer, direct address to the audience, arson, colonialism, a mysterious figure living in the attic, cross-dressing, and potential paranormal activity all wrapped in prose as beautiful and moody as the moors that house Thornfield Hall. This is a text that has grown with me and I find something new to dig my teeth into every time I revisit it.
