The Lost Daughter by Elena Ferrante
3.0
dark reflective slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This is definitely more of a reflective, literary read, from a first person perspective, with very little plot, so if that isn't your thing, I'd give this one a miss. The focus is very much on motherhood, and women who perhaps struggle to find the balance of their needs with those of their children, but also might not feel the maternal instinct as strongly as most mothers do. I didn't find Leda very interesting or compelling, even though she's clearly troubled and could have been developed further, and it's definitely more of a slice of life type book, which won't work for everyone. But as something to listen to while I worked, it was perfect. The audiobook narrator was great, so no criticism of her - I'd recommend that if you like audiobooks/haven't time to sit down with a physical copy.
