It has a disjointed start that nearly had me give up. A number of the early stories are individually captivating but just confusing why they are together till much later. Perhaps it’s not suited for audiobook format. The ending came together and overall made the book nicely reflective and enjoyed. There was no real resolution to environmental concerns presented at the end (though definitely a smaller plot point). It made you think a little about environmental issues, prison ethics, extremism, and trusting authority. Not sure about the POW portion of the book since the Chinese characters were very flat and portrayed poorly but perhaps reflecting the POW viewpoint. All in all looses 1 star but gains back .25 star for winning me over again in the final third.
Graphic: Ableism, Mass/school shootings, War
Moderate: Bullying, Mental illness, Pandemic/Epidemic
Minor: Animal death
