The House of a Hundred Whispers by Graham Masterton

3.0

CW:
I need to start off with there is a r*pe scene about 2/3 into the book. It’s not super graphic, but if that’s something you, like me need to look out for, it’s in there.

this is the most white male horror movie plot. It had cliché haunting horror movie/book points. Enough so that every time one of those popped up I texted my husband, and he asked why I was still reading it. That being said, female characters are week with nothing to them. With cliché characteristics that I’m tired of seeing. With that even the male characters where flat.
It was about till half way through the book when I was finally think “oh, this is original” but let me down as it continues to be the same plot that I’ve already seen a million times before. If I wasn’t familiar with the folklore about El Silbón (the Whistler) I would have found this more original. But it just seemed like a whitewash version of that folklore made into a predictable Netflix style horror
3 stars is generous, I could give it 2.5, but I did keep listening and wanting to know how it ended (which I saw coming a mile away)
