“I don’t write about my experiences with depression to defend the legitimacy of my pain. My pain is real; it does not come to me because of my lifestyle, and it is not taken away by my lifestyle.”

MY REVIEW:
Since the day it was released, I’ve made up my mind to must read this book. Those who know my reading habits, knows I don’t usually read non-fictions. But this was a must for me. Because I myself have faced depression and trauma. So, I read this book and I honestly don’t know how to start reviewing this book. It’s because I’ve so much to say and so much to realize about myself that I think, I’ll just have to write notes for my own.
This book is enlightening; not just for people who are going through mental health issues but for literally everyone. This is a one-sitting-read. I would suggest to read this at least once, although slowly, not in one-sitting. Better if you take highlighter, sticky notes to mark the pages, a pen to write notes about yourself (there are already blank lined pages at the end for you to write).
Although the author’s depression was very different from mine, the terms were alike- anxiety, unable to receive calls, unable to forget painful memories, pursuit of happiness, shame, embarrassment, pretension. The author wrote words which exactly I couldn’t make people understand. But I also agree with her on her assumption
“the reason depression is so misunderstood is that there is no truly adequate way to relay what it feels like.”
However, the author didn’t quite exactly wrote the triggering points of her depression, which according to me, is essential to relate as a reader.
I read these 163 pages slowly, comprehending each line, each concept, each emotions. I made lots of mental notes to myself. Overall loved this book.
