I’m feeling very conflicted about this book… I thought I really liked Abby Jimenez’s style of writing after reading her most recent publications but I don’t seem to enjoy her older books. I really loved how she genuinely portrayed anxiety in her book ‘Yours truly’ but the portrayal of OCD in this book felt very mediocre, and it was the typical, generic OCD that we often see in media which is often not how it really is.
The story itself was alright, I liked how the characters had a lot of dimension and had their own personal struggles which they had to resolve as the book progressed. One thing I didn’t like was the pacing of the book, it felt very off and it made it difficult for me to connect with the characters. At some parts, it felt too fast to the point where the story seemed to lose its realistic essence whereas other parts were very slow that it was borderline boring.
