At the Feet of Mothers by Adnan Mahmutovic
The writing style of this book reminded me of the classics I read in school. It was like stepping back in time and I really hope someone gets to read this for class because there is so much to unpack and so much symbolism that a part of me wants to reread to pick up on all of it. For some reason I kept thinking of Their Eyes Were Watching God while I was reading this.
As with a lot of books recently my expectations were above what it delivered. I felt I knew exactly what was going to happen throughout the story so if you're looking for twists and turns this isn't the book for you. This story is all about the journey to get to the ending which can be so beautiful.
Which leads me to the characters. I loved his siblings and how diverse all the characters were because even though we didn't get much time with some of them I got a sense of who they were and how they'd interact and react to various things (my favorite being Kat).
I love reading about various countries and this book highlights different countries in the current state of the world (including the US) and I'm so impressed by this. The amount of research that must have gone into that is astounding.
