challenging informative reflective medium-paced

i finally, finally, finally picked this up (in pristine condition in a little free library) after years of therapists questioning my codependent family.

i admittedly have already worked through a bulk of my people-pleasing, excuse-making tendencies, so it wasn’t as groundbreaking as previously advertised. i’m certain this is mindblowing for those who have never considered, “i, too, matter, and am allowed to take up as much space as i desire.” this book also heavily focuses on relationships rooted in alcoholism/chemical dependencies, which is thankfully not my lived experience. yet, i still struggled connecting the stories to my personal life. potentially a skill issue on my part?

nonetheless, there are good nuggets of wisdom/validation that i will carry with me. i may want to pick this up again if i find myself falling into old habits, which is always possible as someone with a job in service to people’s healing and growing journeys.

also: yes, lots of god talk in here. this book *is* heavily framed around the 12-step program so i wasn’t shocked.

book 3 of 75 hard. 💪
