I love the Penderwicks! The whole family is wonderful fun. The books have an old fashioned feel as if they were taking place in the 1930's or 40's, and you have just discovered a new series by Elizabeth Enright. The characters are all very much individuals, the stories are great.
Mr. Penderwick who remarried at the end of an earlier book (the Penderwicks birth mother died of cancer shortly after the fourth daughter Batty was born, before the series starts), The family has happily adjusted to Iantha their new mother, Ben their adopted brother, and now two year old Lydia is a part of the family. The oldest daughter Rosalynd is in college, and Jane and Skye are teens, so most of the action centers on the younger children Batty (now in fifth grade, Ben (second grade) and two year old Lydia,
