I had to sleep on this one to know how I felt, and I'm still not too sure. I almost didn't rate it at all because I'm just conflicted. We have an unreliable narrator, and I honestly never felt anything positive towards her. I don't really like any of the characters in this book, but I think that's the point. The author describes this as a horror story about publishing and that was definitely accomplished. The hard part is I have no idea what genre this book falls into. I think Kuang is a talented author and I loved her writing. But this plot idea and narrator were just not for me. I read this book fairly quickly because I wanted to know how it would be resolved, but it never felt resolved. I know a lot of people love this book, and I can definitely see why, but for me it just fell flat. It left me feeling confused more than anything, and that's not really what I want in a book. But I think I would read more from this author because even with the things I didn't enjoy in this book, I did enjoy her writing.
