Bouvard and Pecuchet by Gustave Flaubert

4.0

Some bits were hard for me to focus on (like the chapter on politics, in which I got a bit lost). But overall I really enjoyed it and actually chortled aloud at some bits. The cat-boiling was pretty horrible. And the notes for the last couple of chapter were really interesting, so I kind of wish he hadn't gone and died so he could've finished writing the story. It also seemed like parts of the dictionary at the end might've been incomplete, because they weren't as fleshed out as [b:The Devil's Dictionary|49256|The Devil's Dictionary|Ambrose Bierce|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170358157s/49256.jpg|865289].
